Can I take the ICAO English test online from Ireland?

Yes, the assessment is delivered online and can be completed from Ireland or while you are abroad. You need a stable internet connection, a quiet room, a working camera and microphone, and valid photo identification. The session lasts approximately 20 minutes.

What does the exam assess?

The ICAO English Language Proficiency Test—also searched for as an ICAO ELP exam, aviation English exam, pilot English test or LPT—assesses pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and interaction. It evaluates practical spoken communication rather than technical knowledge or memorised answers.

How the online process works

1. Request an appointment and suggest up to three optional UTC time slots.
2. Receive personal confirmation and payment instructions.
3. Watch the pre-exam briefing and join the one-to-one online session.
4. Receive the result and certificate, normally within 12 hours and no later than 24 hours.
5. Follow the submission or endorsement process required by the IAA.

ICAO Levels 4, 5 and 6

The assessment may result in ICAO Level 4 (Operational), Level 5 (Extended) or Level 6 (Expert). For this service, the stated EASA validity periods are four years for Level 4, six years for Level 5 and unlimited validity for Level 6. The licensing authority determines the final endorsement and validity recorded on the licence.

Who conducts and processes the examination?

The session is conducted by N. Toffanin, an active airline pilot and certified aviation English examiner. Official administration, independent second rating, results and certificates are processed through L6 Aviation OÜ, an Estonian Language Testing Body authorised by the Estonian Transport Administration.

Do I need to be physically in Ireland?
